Brasília – President Dilma Rousseff said on Monday (May 27) that by building the six stadiums that will host the FIFA Confederations Cup and World Cup matches, Brazil is proving determined, capable, and well-positioned to hosting a best-ever competition. In the latest weekly edition of Breakfast with President (“Café com a Presidenta”), she rebuffed the skepticism over the country's ability to meet the deadlines to complete the stadium works and to comply with the standards imposed by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
“The construction workforce, the businesses contractors, and the governments involved have all proven that Brazil can rise to the challenge and timely deliver on its commitments,” she said.
According to the president, the six new stadiums have been designed to ensure sustainability. The Castelão, in Fortaleza, Ceará, for example, will tap into rainwater for pitch irrigation and WC cleaning. And Arena Pernambuco, in Recife, relies on solar panels for water heating, in addition to a natural ventilation and lighting system.
“I'm convinced that Brazil will shine both on and off pitch. We will show all viewers, local and foreign tourists, players, and staff members alike that we are a cheerful, friendly country, and are well-positioned to welcome our visitors. I'm pretty sure that all visitors will be delighted and will look forward to returning for the World Cup next year,” she said.
