Brasília – The latest opinion poll by the National Transportation Confederation ("CNT"), released on Tuesday (July 16), found that 31.3% of the population approve of Brazil's federal government under president Dilma Rousseff, down from a previous 54.2% approval rate reported in June. The disapproval rate for Dilma's government is now 29.5%.
As for the president's personal performance, a positive rating was given by 49.3% of respondents, a sharp drop from 73.7% in the prior poll.
In a note, the CNT reported that the polls show that president Dilma's approval rating started to plummet after the massive nationwide protests in June “...sparked by widespread dissatisfaction with the poor quality of public services, government expenditures on preparations to host the 2014 World Soccer Cup and a long track record of corruption scandals”.
The CNT public opinion poll interviews 2,002 people in 134 municipalities in 20 states. The margin of error for the survey is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.
