Brasília – Pope Francis tweeted on Friday (July 19) (@pontifex) to remind followers that he will arrive in Brazil within three days. He will fly to Rio for the World Youth Day on Monday (July 22), and will stay in the country until July 29. In the message, the pope greets participants.
“Many of you have already arrived in Rio and many more are just arriving. We will see one another there in only three days”, pope Francis posted on his Twitter. “In this Year of Faith [WYD motto], let us remember that faith is not something we possess, but something we share. Every Christian is an apostle.” Two days before, the pope had tweeted, “Prayer, humility, and charity toward all are essential in the Christian life: they are the way to holiness.”
Francis' predecessor, Benedict XVI, was the first pontiff to have a Twitter account. His first tweet was posted on December 12, 2012. Messages are posted in nine languages – Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Latin, Polish and Arabic.
