Brasília – A preliminary financial balance sheet for the Confederations Cup shows that Brazilian and foreign tourists, along with national teams and their delegations, spent $140.5 million during the event, which lasted 15 days. The figures are from a survey by the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur) based on the number of tourists and how long they stayed in the cities hosting the games, along with expenditures by teams and delegations participating in the soccer tournament.
In accordance with data from Embratur, there was a difference in the period foreign and Brazilian tourists who came to see the soccer games stayed. Foreign tourists stayed approximately ten days and Brazilian tourists around three days. Total expenditures by foreign tourists who came to the Confederations Cup are estimated at $ 77.6 million during the 15-day championship. National team expenditures were around $ 31.5 million.
According to Embratur's president, Flavio Dino, the impact of Brazilian tourist expenditures at the Confederations Cup was proportionally large because the tournament was essentially a local event. "The Confederations Cup has its main focus on locals; it's a test for the upcoming World Cup. We'll get a massive number of foreign tourists then," he declared.
