Brasília – Brazil's Revenue Office introduced a new baggage declaration form effective as of Friday (August 16). The Travelers' Property Declaration e-Form allows international travelers to report their carry-on currency and property on-line from their computers, tablets, and smartphones, which speeds up customs check procedures.
Under the new system, travelers arriving in Brazil can enter their baggage details on mobile devices and instantly submit the information to the Federal Revenue database over a wireless network.
The upgrade is part of a comprehensive modernization plan designed to streamline customs tracking of travelers' baggage, in anticipation of large-scale sporting events such as the World Cup 2014 and the 2016 Olympics which will be hosted in Brazil.
For greater travelers' ease, a guide is available on-line including details on tax-exempt items and baggage limits. It can be printed to fold for a convenient pocket format.
An application version of the form is also available for download to Android or iOS smartphones and tablets. Federal Revenue has also made a Portuguese-language video (with subtitles in English) to provide guidance for travelers. More information is available on www.receita.fazenda.gov.br (in Portuguese).
