Rousseff arrives in St Petersburg for G20 summit

Brasília – President Dilma Rousseff has arrived in St Petersburg, Russia, where she is to take part in the 8th G20 Summit. The G20 is a bloc made up of the world’s greatest economies. The president’s entourage consists of minister of Finance, Guido Mantega, minister of Foreign Relations, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, Special Advisor for International Affairs, Marco Aurélio Garcia, and the president’s spokesman, Thommas Traumann. They do not have any official appointments on Wednesday (September 4).
The organizers of the G20 summit announced that the focus of the meeting will be on economic growth and financial stability, as well as the creation of quality jobs and fighting unemployment. However, the increasingly serious crisis in Syria should also be part of the topics discussed, since, on Saturday (September 31), president Barack Obama declared that the United States are ready to attack Syria, although he said he would wait for the support of Congress before he carries out a military operation.
Obama and Rousseff will meet for the first time since the monitoring of private data belonging to the president and her advisors by American intelligence agencies became public. This topic should also be addressed during the meetings that Dilma will have on Thursday and Friday (September 5 and 6) with the other presidents from BRICS bloc, whose members are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
