Girl injured in Rio airport fall moves out of ICU

Rio de Janeiro – A three-year-old Argentinian girl who fell off an airport mezzanine in Rio de Janeiro was moved from intensive from intermediate care on Thursday (Jan. 9). Camila Palacios dropped from the five-meter high mezzanine balcony into a gap between the escalator and the guardrail at Terminal 2 of the Rio de Janeiro Tom Jobim International Airport (“Galeão”) on Saturday (Jan. 4). She is receiving care at Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto.
The local health department reported that her condition is stable and she may be transferred to the hospital ward in the upcoming days, but when she will be discharged is still unknown.
Airport police chief Luciano Coelho heard the girl's mother and 11 other people, and is awaiting the inspection report by the end of the month to close the case.
